Vox AC10C1 10W Amp Tube Amplifier
If you’re a fan of classic Vox tone, you’ll love this very-portable AC10 combo. Smaller than the AC15 but more substantial than the lunchbox-ish AC4 (in size and sound), the AC10 offers real Top Boost tone and ample volume in a grab-n-go package.
The 10” Celestion speaker offers a warm full sound, thanks to a closed-back cabinet that’s a little larger than the original AC10 from the ’60s. The all-tube (EL84) amp can crank, too. There’s plenty of headroom—great for clean tones before your pedals—and of course, the timeless Vox chime. But with the gain pushed, that defined, edgy growl kicks in. A Master Volume control lets you go there at any level.
EQ controls are simple Treble and Bass, but you won’t want for tone. And the Reverb offers a warm, not-too-splashy depth. At just over 25 lbs., this could easily become your go-to amp for sessions and small-venue gigs (or stick a mic in front of it and use it on any size stage).
Why We Like It
It would be easy to get caught up in nostalgia and simply associate Vox with the ‘60s British Invasion. But Vox amps really sound distinctive and great—different from Fender and very different from contemporary midrange-focused, heavy-distortion amps. And since Korg has been involved in their manufacture, they’ve also become more reliable and affordable than ever.
The AC10 offers versatility in a small package. It sounds warm and smooth at low volumes; it likes pedals; it’s not afraid to crank; and it’s easy to toss in the car. We’re fans of Vox amps, and this little guy lives up to the family reputation.
