  • Description

Yes, it’s billed as a workstation, but the KROSS88 (and little brother KROSS61) are also ready to hit the stage with tons of great sounds and outstanding portablility. At just 27.3 lbs., you get a weighted-action, velocity-sensitive 88-note keyboard, outstanding sounds including sampled grand, upright and electric pianos, drums, organs, basses, strings, brass, and plenty of world instruments and synths.

Korg has added digital effects: reverbs, delays, chorus, flanger, rotary speaker, even amp modeling—134 total—and you can use up to 7 simultaneously.

For onstage convenience, you’ll appreciate features like:

  • A ‘Favorites’ function lets you assign up to 64 sounds over 16 keys for 1-button instant call-up—really useful on the gig.
  • Two dedicated Sound Selector knobs let you dial up categories and specific sounds quickly and easily—much faster than scanning.
  • Layer/Split buttons let you combine sounds and key assignments on the fly.

For recording, you’d expect a first-class 16-track MIDI sequencer and step sequencer—that’s all here—plus a dedicated Drum Track function and arpeggiator. But Korg has also added a built-in stereo audio recorder and mic input so you can record and overdub vocals.

A USB port lets you transfer MIDI data to your DAW. You can use the KROSS61 as part of your sequencer software and use your computer to edit both Program and Sequencer information.

Why We Like the KROSS88

Like everything else Korg makes, the KROSS88 and KROSS61 deliver pro sounds, functions and performance. We like that they’re portable enough to use on a gig, with smart, easy-to-access features. Add sounds that are good enough to use for recording, combined with USB/MIDI connectivity, and you have one rig that can cover a whole lot of bases—for not a whole lot of investment.  That’s good performance and good value.
