Hartley Peavey built his first amplifier in 1957, and decided to keep going instead of being content. Since then, there's not much he hasn't seen or done, with a multitude of amp designs and circuits and 180 patents to back it up.
Many of you are familiar with the popular Classic Series amps, as well as the loud amps made for head bangers and heavy rockers. However, how many of you have heard of (or heard) the new line of hand-wired amps from Peavey's Custom Shop? Honestly, I didn't even know there was such a thing until our Peavey rep came in and demonstrated these amazing amplifiers. So what's the big deal, and how are they different? Well, keep reading, and I'll try and elaborate.
Peavey's 19th Street Custom Shop focuses on filling the tone and volume demands for every scenario with amps rated at 1.5, 20 and 50 watts. Instead of trying to "recreate" the sound from an amp built 40 years ago, these amps offer their own character, personality, and charm, covering a lot of ground of clean and overdriven sounds, but stimulating the sonic pallet with a tone unique to itself; something I find very refreshing.
In addition to the amps being hand wired, fitted, and finished completely by hand, the boys over on 19th Street offer a slew of options, from tolex color to even wood trim options. How cool is that? It's also nice to know such a pretty amp is constructed of solid, finger-jointed pine, which offers a sturdy structure with a purdy tone.
It's still true you get what you pay for, but in the case of Peavey's 19th Street Custom Shop, you get a lot more. Take a closer look at these wonderful amps and see for yourself. Better yet, hearing them makes it that much sweeter.
